Allegany County Animal Shelter | Pet Appeciation Week Shelter Spotight

Pet Appreciation Week 2022 is June 5th through June 11th, and in our humble opinion, it is one of the single greatest weeks of the year! We’ll be honest, we feel like every week is Pet Appreciation Week here at Cuddle Clones. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t live to celebrate pets and the joy, love, and companionship they bring into our lives. However, when this wonderful time of year rolls around, we want to celebrate it for the special occasion it is!

That’s why in honor of Pet Appreciation Week, we are bringing you not one, not two, but THREE Shelter Spotlights. What makes these spotlights so special is these are the most highly nominated shelters from our list.

A portion of each and every purchase goes to benefit animal shelters, pet rescues, and humane societies all around the country, and every single organization we support is nominated by our customers. Do you know a pet welfare organization in need of support? Visit the Donations Page on our website and fill out our shelter nomination form.

Introducing Allegany County Animal Shelter

The Allegany County Animal Shelter exists to serve as a “shelter of hope” for lost, abandoned, and homeless animals. These beautiful creatures in desperate need deserve their best chance at living a full, happy, and healthy life, and thanks to the tireless efforts of the fine folks who make up ACAS’s staff.

As recently as 2010, the Allegany County Animal Shelter was a very different place, serving as the final destination for nearly 85% of its animal population. However, thanks to the selfless efforts of a few dedicated animal welfare activists, the ACAS has grown and evolved into a haven for pets in need.

This change and the impact this organization has had on its local community is overwhelmingly evident in the shelter nominations we received on their behalf:

“Allegany County Animal Shelter [is] located in Cumberland, Maryland’s most disadvantaged city and one of the most disadvantaged cities in the country. It was Maryland’s first municipal no kill shelter, and yet while it saves many more animals than most shelters, only receives half of its funding from the government. It struggles to meet its budget and gratefully welcomes assistance.”

“My wife and I have been helping this very needy, no-kill shelter adopt out both its canine and feline animals for 18 months. While the shelter is located in a very financially challenged county in Maryland, we have seen amazing adoption results. We are tremendously impressed with the shelter's efforts to find good homes for their animal clients.”

“This is a no kill shelter located in one of the poorest parts of the state of Maryland. The directors and staff have worked tirelessly to place the animals in loving homes. They rescue dogs from horrible situations and obtain the necessary care to heal them. My dog, Sophia, came from this shelter and she is a true joy.”

Every animal welfare organization we support makes an immeasurable difference in their community. However, every so often, a shelter like this is nominated for support, and it reminds us why charitable giving is a core value of everything we do here at Cuddle Clones. The selflessness and unwavering determination of these fine folks is truly remarkable, and we could not be more thrilled to support their cause.

How to Support Allegany County Animal Shelter

The good news is that if you purchased any of our custom gifts for pet lovers last month, you already have! Your purchase means we were able to support Allegany County Animal Shelter’s mission. However, for those of you who want to do more (and we love that about you), there are a few great ways to support the cause:

  • Volunteer Your Time: For those of you in and around the Cumberland area, volunteering your time is an incredible way to make a difference in the lives of the shelter pets who are currently waiting to find their forever homes. Orientation events for new volunteers are held once a month, so interested folks are encouraged to attend.
  • Make a Monetary Donation: Every cent makes a difference for shelters, rescues, and humane societies. These amazing organizations are often run on a shoestring budget, and monetary donations ensure that shelter animals receive the mission critical care they need.
  • Adopt A Pet: One of the best ways to help a shelter is to lower its population! A lower population means they can take on new pets in need and help pair animals in need with their future forever homes. Plus, it takes a massive load off of their resource strain.

  • Thank you again to everyone who nominated this wonderful organization. Our Shelter Spotlights for the month aren’t over yet, so be sure to check out all three, including  Kitty Up Cat Rescue and  Feline Canopy of Care!
